I’ve been reading a lot of Floyd Gottfredson Mickey Mouse comics lately, courtesy of those gorgeous hardbound collections Fantagraphics has been putting out lately. It’s a lot of fun to try to ape Gottfredson’s style. Such a lively, bouncy ink line. Plus, the comics are incredibly fun.

I’ve added a bunch of new illustrations to the Illustrations page. Check them out! They’re pretty good.

At the beginning of August, I was approached by someone from Bloomberg BusinessWeek about doing a substantial set of illustrations in a short period of time for their website.

Essentially: Could I do 14 full-color illustrations in 2 weeks?

I said I could. And so…I did. (With help from a little lady by the name of Robyn Chapman.)

And now that’s over and done. I’m proud and satisfied, although I keep seeing things I wished I’d tweaked.

I’ll post the illustrations on the illustration page just as soon as Bloomberg’s exclusivity grace period is over (90 days from first publication). But I just wanted to say, I did it. I didn’t flake out. I did a good job and I’m proud of myself.
